McDonald's, Burger King, and Long Runs

We are just a month away from the marathon, which means our runs are pretty far! Saturday, we ran 18 miles! Rarely do we have the opportunity to run together, but we're working hard to to plan our long runs together. Joel wants to make sure that I'm not cheating!

When Joel runs, he cannot stop thinking about food. Before he has finished mile one, he has already discussed 10 different foods he wants to eat when he finishes mile 18.

The thought of food usually disgusts me when I run. I cannot even let him talk to me about it or I become nauseous. The problem: when you're running long distances like 18 miles, you MUST eat! We had to plan a stop at our car after mile 9 just for a snack time to ensure we had the energy for miles 10-18.

After mile 18, you have to eat! In fact, you get really sick if you don't. It is about the only time that you can eat fast food without putting on a pound. We never eat fast food unless it is a salad or Subway. But I LOVE a fish fillet sandwich at McDonalds and hadn't eaten one in years. After chugging my chocolate milk (my after run replenishment drink), I stuffed a fish fillet sandwich and medium fries into my belly. It tasted so good!

Because Joel & I can never agree on food, he insisted we drive through Burger King to get him a whopper with cheese and extra pickles.

Calories Consumed in 5 minutes eating fast food:
Amy: 630
Joel: 830

Calories Burned Running 18 Miles: Approx 2,000

Doesn't that make you want to go run 18 miles so you can eat whatever you want?
